Make Dreams Real

The Rotary 4-way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:
  • Is it the TRUTH?
  • Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  • Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

*****Rotary Tidbit:  Rotary’s first appeal for aid to disaster victims was in 1913 when $25,000 was given for flood relief in Ohio and Indiana.*****

Roz Baker Honored.  Last week, Roz Baker was named “Special Rotarian.”  Roz likes Rotary for how we deal with the human needs of people around the world, the camaraderie and friendships.  Her first job was helping her parents manage their three bakeries in Philadelphia.  Her job literally was being the “mini-manager” as she not only was responsible for greeting, serving customers and keeping records, she also was in charge of looking after her two younger sisters.  All this at age 12.  Besides family, she is most proud of all she has been able to accomplish during her life.  Her most vivid Rotary memories are the weekly programs and helping with the District Conferences.  Her hobby is music; from classical to show tunes.  She is a classically trained operatic singer and sang professionally in Summer Stock in Philadelphia.  She was instantly hired during one audition when the director asked her to sing whatever song she wanted that would showcase her love of performing.  After just a few bars of “You Can’t Get a Man with a Gun,” the director said, “That’s enough; you got the role.”  Her favorite food is rib steak cooked medium rare.  Roz joined our Club in 1991.  For her service to Rotary and community, Roz received a standing ovation and a Positively Cheyenne gift certificate fired into her hands by a one-shot pistol.

Epigram:  “It’s no longer a question of staying healthy.  It’s a question of finding a sickness you like.”—Jackie Mason

Save the Date.  The special dinner commemorating our Club’s 90th anniversary will begin at 6 p.m., December 4 in the Plains Hotel.  Cost is $50 per person.  Members are encouraged to bring spouses and guests, and special activities are planned for the evening.  If you would like to help with this fun project, contact Julie Malm.

Save the Date, Too.  Our Club’s Cranium Cup trivia contest fundraiser will be held May 15, 2009.  As soon as you receive your shiny new 2009 calendar, make this event among the first thing you jot down.

Epigram:  “I told my doctor I broke my leg in two places.  He told me to quit going to those places.”—Henny Youngman
