Rotarian of the Week
Our Rotarian of the Week grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he graduated from East High School with one of the largest classes in school history, with over 360 students.  This Thunderbird moved on to the University of Wyoming earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management and then a Master’s in Business Administration.  His first job was sweeping floors at Moreland Wholesale for $7 per hour.  Today, Scott Van Horn works as the Trades and Technical Pathway Coordinator at Laramie County Community College, previously serving as a senior development officer at the LCCC Foundation.  Scott and his wife, Christy have been married for 16 years, having dated since their freshman year of high school. They have two kids, Laura, 14, and Jacob, 11.  Scott has been a Rotarian since 2007.  His favorite Rotary memory is that after he was introduced for his first stint in Rotary overhearing someone comment “its good to finally have a Van Horn in our Club.” Scott’s father, Phil, has been a member of the Cheyenne Kiwanis Club for more than four decades.  Scott enjoys Rotary because of its connections with the community.  Scott has served on the New Member and Program Committee and currently serves on our Board of Directors.  Other than family, his proudest accomplishment is leading a capital campaign as the Chapter Advisor for the Sigma Chi Fraternity resulting in significant renovation to the fraternity house and scholarship funds.  Scott’s favorite meal is his wife’s white lasagna. In his free time, Scott enjoys chasing his daughter’s swim meets, supporting his son’s boy scouts endeavors, landscaping and home improvement projects.

Joint Service Club Food Drive
In Wyoming, it is estimated that 86,000 residents struggle with food insecurity. In Laramie County alone, approximately 11% of households struggle with food insecurity, with the number increasing to 14% for those households with children. A large proportion of these individuals rely heavily on food banks and donations made possible by the community.

The Rotary, Kiwanis, Zonta, and Lions Clubs of Cheyenne have all teamed up to sponsor a two-day food drive Saturday, August 27th 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, August 28th 12 PM to 5 PM. Collection locations include Albertsons (Yellowstone Rd.), King Soopers (Dell Range Blvd.), Safeway (S. Greeley) and Walmart (Livingston Ave.).

Volunteers are needed for the day of the event and can sign-up for various times and locations following this link:  https://tinyurl.com/clubfooddrive

Food collected will be distributed to each of the following entities:
1. Laramie County Community College Western States Bank Student Food Pantry - Provides free food, toiletry items, and school supplies to LCCC students in need.
2. Needs Inc. Food Pantry - Provides food, essentials, and resources to Laramie County residents during their time of adversity.
3. Veterans' Rock - Provides support for homeless veterans in need and their families.

In lieu of food donations, monetary donations may be mailed to: Food Drive, P.O. Box 2883, Cheyenne, WY  82003. Please make checks out to one of the three locations receiving collections.
