The Picklr

The Pickl'r
January 22, 2025 - The meeting will be held at Little America at 12 noon.
Ray Estes, Randy Halfpop and Chad Preiss

Pickleball, often described as a combination of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton, is America's fastest growing sport.

Earlier this month, Laramie County residents Ray and Tanya Estes opened and now operate the Cheyenne pickleball facility "The Picklr."  Located in the former Big Lots space on East Lincolnway, the 22,000-square-foot facility includes eight indoor courts with outdoor-style surfacing, a pro shop, private event space, and grab-and-go refreshments. Services will include court reservations, drills, league play, clinics, tournaments and open play.

Both U.S. Army veterans, Ray and Tanya see the new franchise as an opportunity to apply their leadership experiences in the business arena. Ray’s military tenure included serving at the U.S. Military Academy — also known as West Point — as a family and marriage counselor and ethics and leadership instructor. Tanya, a West Point graduate, holds a Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing and taught information technology and computer science at West Point for 13 years. A retired colonel, Tanya’s a former Apache helicopter pilot who is now a commercial pilot for United Express as part of CommuteAir.

Three New Members Introduced
Tom Bass and President Beth welcome Britt Holmes to the Club.

Britt is a native of Cheyenne, a graduate of Cheyenne East High School and the University of Wyoming with dual Bachelor Degrees in Agricultural Business/Economics and Agricultural Communications. Britt is excited to be back in Cheyenne after residing 20 years in Nebraska. She is Vice President of Lending at Wyoming Bank & Trust with over 17 years of lending experience. Britt also served as Director of Economic Development for 5 years in Deuel County, NE.
She has two sons, Bradyn and Brody. Bradyn graduated high school last year and just finished training for the Air Force and Brody is an 8th grader. In Britt’s spare time she raises cattle and dabbles in photography, all the while chasing her boys in their activities.
Britt has been a Rotarian since 2016 with the Chappell Rotary Club in Chappell, NE where she held the role of President for two years.

Josh Hardee and President Beth welcome new member Sean Michael to the Club.

Sean, originally from Maryland, has lived across the country and overseas during his 24-year military career as a Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy. Throughout his service, he flew aircraft carrier-based jets, including the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler. Before his Navy career, Sean spent five years working at an investment firm in Baltimore. Now, after completing an MBA in Financial Planning, thanks to the GI Bill, he’s excited to return to his roots in personal finance as a Trust and Wealth Management Officer at Hilltop Bank. Sean is married to Jody Cousins, a Wyoming native, who is a Family Medicine physician at the University of Wyoming’s Family Medicine Residency Program here in Cheyenne.

Mick Finnegan and President Beth welcome new member Matt Cannon.

Matt has been with Western Vista Credit Union for almost two years.  Starting as a part time teller, working to his current position as a commercial service officer.  He is also a student at the University of Wyoming, going into his final semester.  He will graduate with his bachelor’s degree in accounting.

He has lived in the Cheyenne area for the majority of his life, moving here from a small town outside of Boulder, Colorado when he was 3 years old.  He has worked, and attended school in Wyoming, and feels a strong sense of community with Cheyenne.

His favorite community activity is seeing what local artists have to offer.  Everything from seeing local bands perform at the Lincoln, to attending the Wyoming International Film Festival.  He tries to support Wyoming and Colorado artists as much as possible.

Matt’s personal mission in life is to give back to his community and help in any way that he can to make progress in community development.
