Black Hills Energy –A look at the Past, Present and Future

Black Hills Energy is a customer focused, growth oriented company with a tradition of improving life with energy and a vision to be the energy partner of choice. In Cheyenne, the utility provides both electric and natural gas service for its’ customers, in addition to providing renewable energy solutions for businesses with clean energy goals. Embracing an “all of the above” approach to providing power, the company also owns and operates a coal mine and two power plants in Wyoming.
Our presentation will provide an overview of the company’s history, discussing current operations and projects locally, and statewide. We’ll also review exciting new energy technologies that the company is working to develop.

Support for Community Action Laramie County
Last week at the Board meeting, the Club voted to give Community Action Laramie County (CALC) $5000 to purchase a trauma bed to be placed in the Crossroads Health Care Clinic.  The funds for this donation came form our Corporate Sponsorship Program.
New Member Introduced
Lucie Osborn introduced Antonia Gaona to our Club membership, President Lori welcomes Antonia to the Club.

Antonia was raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. She spent her youth playing softball, soccer and, through the guidance of her family and the Girl Scouts, enjoying the great outdoors throughout Colorado and Wyoming. She attended college at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she majored in Political Science, International Affairs and Economics.  She paid her way through college by working at the public library. She worked in many roles, gaining both a deep passion for public service and an appreciation for free access to information. On the precipice of attending law school after graduation, Antonia realized her true calling was library work. She changed course and attended graduate school at the University of Denver, where she graduated with honors with a Master of Library and Information Science.

With over 20 years of library experience and over 15 years in management and leadership roles, Antonia is a passionate librarian with focus on providing an excellent user experience, maintaining responsive and dynamic facilities and staff, and forging unique partnerships to expand opportunities for all patrons. Antonia is excited to bring her experience and insight to the community in Laramie County as the new County Librarian.  And as an aside I can tell you that she is aware of the issues we face in housing, education of the youth, workforce support and economic development and how the library can support out community in all these aspects.

Antonia lives with her husband and three beautiful kids in downtown Cheyenne.  Faith is an important part of their family life - actively participating at Saint Mary’s Cathedral and supporting their kids at Saint Mary’s School. They are truly an international family with deep roots in Italy, Spain, and Mexico which they try to visit regularly.  When not working, Antonia is enjoying time with her large extended family, and cooking up traditional Mexican plates based on recipes passed down from her grandmother.  They enjoy camping and hiking around the state, and are truly honored to become part of the Laramie County Community and now as a part of Rotary.
