Mike Howe
ShelterBox

Mike’s passion for ShelterBox developed from his time in the Sequim (WA) Sunrise Rotary Club.  That Club had 3 Strategic Response Team members and an Ambassador that really brought home the impact ShelterBox has around the world.  As an Ambassador for ShelterBox USA, Mike gives presentations to Clubs throughout Wyoming and elsewhere.  He also serves on the Ambassador Council, where he leads Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho efforts for ShelterBox USA.

Mike was honored to be nominated for Ambassador of the Year and for Leader of the Year in 2021, and has been recognized as Ambassador of the Month multiple times.

Mike has been a Rotarian for over 14 years, with 3 clubs, and is currently the Immediate Past-President of the Rotary Club of Casper (WY).

Rotarian of the Week
Our Rotarian of the week grew up in Trinidad Colorado and graduated from Trinidad High School, home of the Miners, with 112 in her graduating class. This Rotarian liked High School but was happy to graduate and attend Newman College, a small school in Wichita, Kansas. She received a BA in Communications while being very active in the extra curriculars in the school. She was student body president, brought back homecoming, was a recruiter for the school and an administrative counselor.
Her first job was working on the Chuck Wagon, a summer only outdoor barbeque restaurant, for $3.35 an hour.
Our Rotarian of the week stayed in Wichita for 10 years working in customer service and hospitality. She met her first husband and had two children,  Emily and Tristan, but left Kansas because of the humidity. This is a huge hint if you can imagine her curly hair!
When our special Rotarian arrived in Cheyenne, she and her second husband lived in the Plains Hotel for a couple of months until they got settled. He got to see the world famous “wedding ghost” up close and personal and thought that it was pretty believable and scary.
This Rotarian worked for the State for 6 years Supervising Child Development Centers, then moved to Stride Learning Center to work on Compliance and Fundraising before landing her dream job as Executive Director of the Wyoming Congressional Award Council.
Sarah Compton is also very proud of her work with the WY Brewers Fest, she helped them through a difficult transition time but it really set them up for success.
Her favorite meal is a steak burrito smothered in green chili.
With two teenagers at home, Lilly and Wilson, Sarah is quite busy. Her hobbies are community theatre and movies. Most recently, she played the mean aunt in James and the Giant Peach, her son Wilson was in the play as well. Her favorite movies are ET and The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.
Sarah was sponsored into our club by Scott VanHorn and her favorite thing about Rotary is that on Wednesdays she always feels better at 1:30 than she did at 11. She loves being the head of greeters and working with Bill and Jerry at the Sargent of Arms desk.
Let’s congratulate our Rotarian of the Week, Sarah Compton.
