A Brief Overview of the WPA: When FDR Put the Nation to Work
For the ten years of the Great Depression, over a quarter of American heads of household were unemployed. As part of his New Deal, President Franklin Roosevelt created the WPA (Works Progress Administration). Kristi Wallin and Mary Guthrie, who belong to Blue Stockings, a women’s study group, will present today's program. Their presentation is timely, considering the economic challenges that the US is currently facing. In fact, some have suggested that the government should create a WPA like program.
