PE Mary Guthrie read the following Memorial for Claire Davis to the Club last Week:
Claire Reese Davis had a full and fascinating professional and personal life. A native of Salt Lake City, she traced her pioneer roots back generations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design from the University of Utah School of Architecture in 1971 and was licensed to practice architecture in several states. Claire was among the first women architects in Wyoming, and her practice included a diverse mix of residential and commercial projects.
Claire had an inquiring mind and was a witty, engaging conversationalist. She was actively involved in many organizations, including Bluestockings, the Wild Wyoming Women Book Club, and the Cheyenne Rotary Club. For many years, she served as a lay reader and choir member at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She also took classes at Laramie County Community College and was an accomplished artist. Claire was a loyal friend, a supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, and a joy to be around, always with a twinkle in her eye, a mischievous giggle, and a wonderful sense of fun.
Claire and her husband, Bud, were a true team. She supported him throughout his medical career and his service on the CRMC Foundation Board. Together, they were recognized as honorary chairmen for Denim and Diamonds. Of particular significance is the Davis First Generation Experience they established at Laramie County Community College. This program helps incoming first-generation college students feel comfortable on campus and prepared for the challenges of college life. Since its launch in 2022, the First Generation Experience has enhanced the lives of many students.
Claire loved the outdoors and was an enthusiastic backpacker, an accomplished equestrian, and a devoted gardener. She also had a special affection for dogs, especially standard poodles.
After retiring, Claire joined Rotary because she wanted to be involved in meaningful service projects. Although she and Bud often drove to Rotary together, she made a point of sitting at different tables so she could get to know as many members as possible.
Claire Reese Davis enriched countless lives and made a lasting difference in our community. She will be deeply missed.
