Wyoming Congressional Awards

Wyoming has long been the leader in the Congressional Award program in terms of creating and maintaining a program that not only serves Wyoming's youth but also promotes growth in character, leadership, and commitment. Wyoming's own late Senator Malcolm Wallop was the driving force between the bipartisan effort in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives to establish the Congressional Award Act in 1979 to "recognize initiative, service, and achievement in young people."

 PRESIDENT LORI’S MONTHLY ROUNDUP
Hello my Rotary family-
IDENTIFY * INTRODUCE * INVITE * INDUCT * INVOLVE *  We are following this prescription of membership success by attracting new members and engaging new and current members.  Our efforts have led us to a membership of 198.  Please visit our club website cheyennerotary.org to see our updated club membership application.

Whether you support our club through your membership dues, serving on a committee, contributing your talent and or treasure to a service project, hosting a Youth Exchange Student, or inviting your personal and professional friends to join our club, you are contributing to our success.

Speaking of success…our Business Sponsorship committee is knocking it out of the park by surpassing the $40,000 they raised last year.  I am writing this before I know the final numbers raised but this is an incredible amount.  Thank you again to the committee members making the ask and to those with businesses that said yes. You are all amazing!

If you would like to serve on a Service Projects Committee to help research worthy projects for our club to consider supporting, please reach out to either the chair of the Local Community Needs and Services and Project Development Committee Chairs, Tom Brantley and Kelly Ceballos, or the World Community Service Committee Chair, Carly Rando.  Other committees to consider being a part of are: Membership, Rotary Funding, Public Relations, New Generations and Club Administration. All committee chairs are listed in our membership directory book.

Like I mentioned last month, please consider attending the Rotary District 5440 Conference in Steamboat Springs, CO May 16-18, 2024. For more information, please to go rotary5440.org to view the conference agenda.  I promise you will meet people that will become lifelong friends
.
In honor of the February 23, 1905 birthday of Rotary and in respect to its original four members, I leave you with this quote from Margaret Mead.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
New Member Introduced
Lexi Daugherty was introduced as our newest member by her sponsor, President Lori.

Lexi Daugherty is a 6th generation Wyomingite and a graduate of the University of Wyoming -Go Pokes! She grew up in Jackson Hole rodeoing and raising 4-H livestock.

Lexi is the Grassroots Engagement Director for the Wyoming state chapter of Americans for Prosperity and is dedicated to expanding freedom and prosperity in Wyoming. In this role, Lexi conducts legislative trainings across the state, engages in a significant amount of campaign work, and works to educate and engage citizens and encourage them to get involved rather than just admiring the problems facing our great state.

Lexi believes every person has a unique set of skills and talents that can be used to produce positive change for a better tomorrow. Her passion, dedication, and experience has allowed her to achieve success in supporting education freedom and eliminating regulations that prohibit Wyomingites from reaching their full potential. Lexi lives and challenges those around her to leave the community better than you found it, which has inspired her career in public service and continues to inspire her work toward changing the direction of the country for the better.

Second New Member Introduced
Kellie Fine, another new member was introduced by her sponsor, Britney Tennant.

Kellie and her family moved to Cheyenne over the summer from Oregon City, Oregon (end of the Oregon Trail).  Her husband is a nurse at CRMC and part owner of a local whiskey company.  She has a thirteen year old daughter, Korah, who loves books and playing her oboe,  she dreams of being a veterinarian.  Her son is four years old and loves jumping off things and dinos, he wants to be Hulk -T-rex when he grows up.

Previously Kellie worked in radiology sales and now works for the Boys and Girls Club as the Director of Resource Development. In Oregon she also owned a soccer retail store with her husband and helped with a local animal rescue – this is how you end up with four dogs and a three legged cat.  Her family loves being outside and enjoys all the sun Wyoming has to offer.  Her work with the Boys and Girls Club has allowed her to meet so many wonderful people and feel like a part of the community.
