Stories
Volunteer Surge Project
In the past month, we have seen the COVID-19 pandemic push our healthcare system around the country to its limits. What if there was a way to help our healthcare workers, from the safety of our homes, to make a real difference in fighting this virus?

In the last four weeks, a nonprofit founded by Rotary members, The Global Impact Group, has been instrumental in an effort to roll out a citizen volunteer opportunity called Volunteer Surge. This Group was co-founded by Rotary members in Districts 5160 and 6900, and clubs throughout the country are joining in this effort.

Combining the power of Rotary, using the technology and collaboration available today, this project has the support and the vision to for significant social impact.  I urge you to click HERE to go onto the TGIG website and learn more. You’ll see that this is an immediate opportunity for us to help our communities, as well as the nation, in the fight against COVID-19!

Volunteering will help healthcare workers save lives! Please check out the TGIG.org website and look at their FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). This opportunity to serve is not limited to Rotary Members!  We encourage you to find out more, sign up if you’re interested in joining the fight against COVID-19, and most importantly to please share this opportunity with friends and family.

The Nature Conservancy Launches New Online Learning Resources
More than 850 million children and youth – roughly half of the world’s student population – have to stay away from schools and universities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  While students can’t travel the world right now, they can still develop great passion and knowledge about the world through high-quality classroom content.

The Nature Conservancy and its 550 scientists have launched Nature Lab, a new online learning platform designed to help students learn the science behind how nature works for us and how we can help keep it running strong.

“As schools around the world shut down to in response to COVID-19 and parents work to balance the demands on their time and energy, we know that students will have very different learning experiences over the next few months,” said Kate Ireland, director of Youth Engagement Programs at The Nature Conservancy. “I’m proud that The Nature Conservancy, with our newly relaunched Nature Lab curriculum, can offer families some support and open up new worlds for young people.”

A variety of age appropriate courses are available for grades K-5, 6-8 and 9-12, plus bonus Virtual Field Trips such as "The Secret Life of Corals," "Borneo: The Symphony of the Rainforest" and more. Nature Lab features a free curriculum and engaging videos that can be viewed on computers, tablets and computers.
