Craft Brewing in Wyoming - The Wyoming Craft Brewers Guild

Michelle Forster recently returned to her home state of Wyoming after leaving a diverse career in Opera and Title Insurance in Los Angeles. While in LA, she also became a skilled homebrewer and worked as a brand ambassador and back office consultant for various LA breweries. She completed her professional certificate in the Business of Craft Beer from the University of Vermont in 2016 and has been a Course Facilitator for the same program ever since.

Michelle is a Certified Cicerone® and the Executive Director of the Wyoming Craft Brewers Guild where she proudly represents the collective voice of all breweries in the Cowboy State.  Ms. Forster is also the Executive Director of the Wyoming Distillers Guild, an organization that strives to promote the burgeoning craft distilling industry in Wyoming. When she’s not working to understand the ins and outs of WY liquor laws or drumming up exciting new promotions for WY breweries, she can be found kayaking, fishing or generally wandering in the beautiful Big Horn Mountains near her home in Sheridan.

Rotarian of the Week
Our Rotarian of the week grew up in Lewiston Montana, a town of 6,000 that is the geographic center of the state. His family then moved to Grand Junction where he graduated from Palisade High School, home of the Bulldogs, with 72 students in his graduating class, many of whom he is still in touch with.  Our Rotarian of the Week’s first job was in the peach orchards, perfect preparation for becoming a Cheyenne Rotarian! But then his employment took an interesting turn when his Ag teacher hired him to rip out his peach trees to plant the first grapes in Grand Valley. Grand Junction/ Palisade is now Colorado’s thriving wine country, and our Rotarian of the week had a hand in starting it.
Our special Rotarian went to CSU earning a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a Master of Science in Fishery Biology. He has worked for Wyoming Game and Fish for over 34 years and is currently the Deputy Chief of Fisheries.
Dirk Miller has been married to Wanda for 30 years. They have a daughter Emily, 27 and a son Spencer, 23. They also have a pet turtle who, they are afraid, might outlive them all! Both of his children did a Rotary Youth Exchange.
Dirk’s most memorable Rotary experience was visiting his daughter Emily in Italy during her exchange. They stayed with her favorite host family and met all the Rotarians that are involved in Youth Exchange there. Dirk is still the Country Rep for Italy. Later, this special host family came to WY to visit, and the Millers hosted them in their home.  Spencer’s favorite host family from Brazil is currently in WY visiting.
Dr. Anne Miller sponsored Dirk to our Rotary club in January 2013. Dirk immediately became involved in the District 5440 Youth Exchange committee and still serves in that role today. He has also served as the club’s Youth Exchange Officer, Counselor, and host family. Dirk has served as Youth Coordinator on our Board of Directors and Cranium cup scorer. Dirk is currently Chairman of the District Youth Exchange Committee which is a huge job, and we are all very grateful for his service to Youth all around the world.
Dirk’s hobbies are Rotary Youth Exchange as well as he and his wife just bought a new cabin outside of Centennial, so they are busy enjoying that!  His favorite meal is his grandma's pot roast with mashed potatoes, corn and her homemade rolls.
Dirk likes feeling that Rotarians working together really make a difference in the world and the and it is nice to be a little part of that. Please join me in congratulating Dirk Miller, our Rotarian of the Week.
