We have resumed our physical gatherings and activities. We will follow the guidelines established by the Department of Health. Masks and social distancing will be required in-person meetings and activities. Guests are welcome.
Rotary Club of Cheyenne will also continue virtual meetings. We encourage those Rotarians and guests unable to physically attend to join us each Wednesday at noon via Zoom! To join a meeting, click on the Speaker and the meeting information below and follow the links.
The Cheyenne Rotary Club Foundation, founded in 1988, was created exclusively for the benefit of the Cheyenne Rotary Club to enable our Club to support community projects throughout Laramie County. Projects supported by the Foundation have included music education through the Cheyenne Symphony, the Veterans Center at LCCC, protective equipment for Cheyenne police, and character development books for students. With your gifts, we can do even more! When the endowment reaches $1 million, our Club will be able to contribute up to $50,000 per year to local projects. And this year, not only are your donations matched by a $30,000 challenge gift from Rotary Club funds, because of the CARES Act a larger portion of your donation may also be tax deductible. Help Rotary make a difference in our community, and donate today!
As previously announced, the Cheyenne Rotary Club is participating in the “With Malice Toward None” initiative of Braver Angels. Braver Angels is a nonprofit volunteer organization that was formed a few years ago to help heal the divisions that are driving the country apart into polarized factions that don’t talk to each other and don’t understand one another. Braver Angels promotes the exchange of ideas by teaching people how to listen and how to speak to people you disagree with. You can find out more about the workshops, debates, and other events—most of which are online now, and all of which are free (and fun and informative), at www.braverangels.org. The With Malice Toward None (WMTN) Initiative is all about the upcoming election. The days and weeks following the election may become the most divisive period in modern American history—no matter who wins. Whether jubilant or bitter about the outcome, Americans will be tempted to embrace The Four Horsemen of Polarization: Stereotyping, Dismissing, Ridicule, and Contempt for their fellow citizens who voted the other way. Events will be held before and after the election for those who want to participate: October 20th (Tues.) 6:30 - Dealing with the Stress and Effects of the Election. Register in advance at this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/124704142447. October 28 (Wed.) 7:00 - demonstration civil discourse about liberal vs. conservative policies, followed by discussion of the elements of a successful civil conversation about controversial topics. Information about these and other upcoming activities can be found at the Braver Angels Wyoming Montana Alliance Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Braver-Angels-Wyoming-and-Montana-107428950673096/ and at https://braverangels.org/what-we-do/. A key element of WMTN is the Pledge: “Regardless of how the election turns out, I will not hold hate, disdain, or ridicule for those who voted differently from me. Whether I am pleased or upset about the outcome, I will seek to understand the concerns and aspirations of those who voted differently and will look for opportunities to work with people with whom I disagree.” To take the Pledge, go to https://braverangels.org/what-we-do/with-malice-toward-none/.
